I want to upgrade from Windows Enterprise Client from 4.6.1 to 5.0.1.   I created a custom MSI for 4.6.1 and deployed it through Microsoft System Center Configuration manager using the silent command line switch.  I want to deploy the new client in the same fashion.  Does the installer know if there is another client and automatically upgrade it and does it do this silently as well without a prompt from the end user to upgrade?

I had the exact same question and I saw your post had been unanswered for over a week, so I opened a support ticket asking the same thing.  Here was the response I got:

The Identity Finder Settings Viewer is a stand-alone reference tool that describes all of the settings available for the client applications:

The following user guide page explains updating clients by using the Client Updates functionality of the console. This feature will update Windows client version or greater. If the client is at version 4.7 or less, distribution of an MSI will need to be performed using your current methods of software deployment :

Performing an uninstall when updating from 4.7 to 5.0.1 is not required.

The following article explains building an MSI using the Identity Finder MSI Builder:

We had a couple of older versions already installed and opted just to completely delete the old client before installing the new. We had several instances where persistent problems were resolved by completely uninstalling. Nothing to lose either really.
