Spirion Introduces the Industry’s First Data Discovery Solution that Protects Sensitive Information Using Differential Privacy

New Tonic integration enables enterprises to safeguard privacy using synthetic data

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (PRWEB), April 02, 2020 — Spirion, a pioneer in building solutions that enable companies around the globe to take the critical first step towards data security and privacy, today announced the integration of its platform with synthetic data provider, Tonic. The first-of-its-kind solution helps enterprises take data privacy to the next level to protect what matters most—the personally identifiable information of their employees, customers, and communities—by replacing sensitive data with high-quality synthetic data, a technique known as differential privacy.

The integration enables Spirion customers to secure identity-centric data, apply the right to be forgotten, and ensure the lawful processing of data by de-identification without compromising data integrity. The solution is mathematically proven to protect against a wide range of privacy, differencing, linkage, and reconstruction attacks.

“This unique relationship with Tonic enables security and privacy leaders to meet the growing demand for personally identifiable information (PII) data removal without affecting business continuity or company performance,” stated Gabriel Gumbs, Chief Innovation Officer for Spirion. “Rather than deleting valuable PII, our combined solution maintains the integrity and business value of our customers’ data while adhering to regulatory requirements governing how such data is collected and processed.”

“Our platform creates a fingerprint of sensitive data that respects all the original constraints, statistical correlations, distributions, and interdependencies,” said Tonic founder Ian Coe. “We use this fingerprint, and not the specific values of the data, to generate portable, compliant datasets that behave just like the original. We are pleased to partner with Spirion to give employees access to the data they need to perform their jobs more efficiently while pre-emptively safeguarding enterprise data through differential privacy.”

Differential privacy makes it possible for organizations to securely share de-identifiable data with others who would not usually have access to it, such as marketing for analytics and trend tracking, giving them deeper insights within the context of their business. The technique also benefits IT teams by letting them test production environments and automate data modeling using de-identified synthetic data without compromising their data.

Both the Spirion and Tonic platforms are compliant with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) legislation.
